2 Today’s Classroom Learning Objectivies Students will be able to write 5 lines of information in response to a prompt. Students will write two new vocabulary words in their word study guide and be able to complete four of the associated exercises. Students will be able to identify plagiarism and the ways to avoid it in their writing. Students will begin researching their topic and will be able to complete one page of notes

6 Hew (v.) – To shape or cut down with an axe, to hold to Synonyms – Chop, hack, fell, adhere, conform

7 Impoverished (adj.) – poor, in a state of poverty Synonyms – poverty-stricken, destitute, indigent Antonyms – rich, wealthy, affluent

9 Do Now What is plagiarism and how do you avoid it?

10 Plagiarism The unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own work. Something used in this manner The Bottom Line Copying, using, or “borrowing” someone else’s work or ideas is considered plagiarism. If you use someone’s work or ideas you must give them credit

11 To Avoid the “P” word… Keep accurate notes Keep notes with sources - write down information where notes come from - complete web sites - complete book information Be organized
