Directions: Identify all the pronouns in this quote from famous playwright Anton Chekhov. "Try to be original in your play and as clever as possible; but don't be afraid to show yourself foolish; we must have freedom of thinking, and only he is an emancipated thinker who is not afraid to write foolish things."

2 Bell Ringer: Tuesday March 17, 2015 Objective(s): Identify and use pronouns; write coherent sentences OneGoal application workshop after school Wednesday in 210! Directions: Copy the sentences, and circle every pronoun. Then, draw an arrow from each pronoun to the noun that it refers to. “What is the question we always ask about the successful? Tells a story: Rising action  Climax  Falling Action  Resolution NON-FICTION Uses charts, graphs, and diagrams to help explain information. Does not necessarily tell a story, but: - explains causes and effects - compares and contrasts - presents a main idea and backs it up with evidence and research

6 Annotating – A Reminder When the reading gets more complicated or confusing, it is EVEN MORE important that we annotate! PROCESS: 1)Determine purpose for reading. 2)Circle words that are confusing. 3)Underline main ideas. 4)Write comments or questions in the margins.

7 Bell Ringer: Friday March 20, 2015 Objective(s): Identify and use pronouns; read and comprehend text OneGoal personal essays are due! Directions: 1.) Copy the sentences, and circle every pronoun. 2.) Are there any vague pronouns? If so, find them and replace them to make the sentence as specific as possible. They should not show violence on television. Sam came over to Mike’s house to watch the game, which made him happy.

8 Annotating – Marginal Notes  Be a selfish reader. How could I use this information? How is this information different from what I already know? Could this make my life easier in any way?  Be curious. Come up with a question, or look for an answer to a question you already have.  Read to connect. Connect your reading to information or experiences that you already know about.
