Exploring the Universe

Big Bang Theory The big bang theory is how the scientist say the universe began. How the Big Bang Started most people believe that all the matter and energy were all concentrated then their was a enormous explosion. evidence for the theory: in 1965 two american physicists notice a signal that they did not understand later on they notice that that signal was cosmic energy explaining that the big bang is still expanding.

The Universe the universe is all time and space everything is in the universe it includes planets, galaxies matter and much more. ●the universe age is 14 billion years old. we ●the universe is very empty ●it contains billions of galaxies ●no one knows the exact size of the universe because we can’t see the edge.

●Start as nebula made of dust and gas ●Moves to a protostar ●Then moves to a main sequence star this is where fusion begins, they spend 90% of their life in this stage ●Changes to a red giant which is a very large star ●then they either move to a supergiant or a white dwarf. Supergiants are larger than red giants and white dwarfs are very hot and small Stars

Galaxies ●Galaxies are sprawling space systems made up of dust and gas ●Scientists have recently realized that we were not the only galaxy ●Scientists say that there are so many galaxies they cannot be counted ●Spiral galaxies are flat disc with a bulging center surrounding spiral arms ●Elliptical galaxies are round but stretched along an axis, the usually contain older stars, they contain little dust

Mercury ●The 1st planet from the sun. ●Is the smallest planet. ●It takes 88 days for the planet to orbit around the sun. ●Has 0 moons.

Venus ●The 2nd planet from the sun. ●Is the 3rd smallest planet. ●It takes 243 days to rotate around the sun. ●Has no moons.

Earth ●The 3rd planet from the sun. ●The 4th smallest planet. ●It takes 365 days to orbit around the sun. ●Has 1 moon.

Mars ●The 4th planet from the sun. ●The 2nd smallest planet. ●It takes 687 days to orbit around the sun. ●Has 2 moons.

Jupiter ●The 5th planet from the sun. ●The largest planet in the solar system. ●It takes 12 years to orbit the sun. ●has 63 moons.

Saturn ●The 6th planet from the sun. ●The 2nd largest planet in our solar system. ●It takes 29 years to orbit the sun. ●has 62 moons.

Uranus ●The seventh planet in the solar system. ●The 4th largest planet in our solar system. ●It takes 84 years to orbit the sun. ●Has 27 known moons.

neptune ●The 8th planet of our solar system. ●The 3rd largest planet. ●It takes 165 years to orbit the sun. ●Has 13 moons.

Orbit of the planets ●All the planets orbit around the sun ●The planets rotate clockwise around the sun

vocabulary star- a luminous point in the night sky light year- one solar year parallax- a type of eclipse apparent brightness- a way to see the luminosity in stars absolute brightness - the full brightness of the star absorption lines- are used to spot atoms and molecules H-R diagram- help scientists find were the luminosity of the stars main sequence- a distinctive band of stars supergiants- are the most massive and luminous stars white dwarf- are very dense stars the sun is a dwarf star nebula- a cloud of dust with hydrogen, helium, and other ionized gases porostar- a large mass that forms by contraction out of gas of a giant molecular planetary nebula- the expansion of ionized gas supernova- when a star dies it explodes neutron star- the smallest type of star their it can also withstand a supernova blast pulsar- a highly magnetized star black hole- after a star has a supernova happens a black hole appears constellation- a group of stars that make a picture star system- a small clusters of stars galaxy- a system with stars gases dust and dark matter. spiral galaxies- has nothing but disc stars
