Program Overview Dr. Nuna E. Almanzor, ASEAN Engr. Director Industrial Technology Development Institute Dengue Vector Surveillance Refresher’s Training and Website Appreciation Seminar July 1, 2014 Bayview Park Hotel, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City

Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue A Joint Partnership of DOSTDOH DepED DILG Memorandum of Agreement (Signed on August 25, 2011 in Barangay Bagbag, Quezon City)

jointly undertake the pursuit of addressing the pressing concern for the prevalence of dengue. Objective of the Memorandum of Agreement: The MOA is an inter-agency cooperation strategy for intensifying the anti-dengue drive of the government.

A. Deployment B. Installation DOST OL Trap System for Aedes Mosquito Public Schools (Nationwide) ElementaryHigh School The program has two components: 1. C. Monitoring of OL index

2. Maintenance of a website for dengue vector surveillance

Importance of the Website: for immediate intervention and action to prevent dengue outbreak. serve as monitoring tool for dengue coordinators, city health officers and other public health practitioners. provides information on mosquito density data as well as warning alerts, health advisory and actions to be undertaken from DOH. readily accessed by the public and other concerned groups.

Process Flow DOH Provide funds to DOST for the purchase of OL Trap Kits DOST (ITDI) Procure the Kits HVC Produce and deliver the kits to the schools DepED 1. Install the kits in the Classroom (2 kits per classroom) 2. Monitor and record OL trap indices weekly 3. Submit data through SMS to content provider 4. Retain data for reference 5. Closely collaborate with LGU DOST Regional Offices DOST Conduct monitoring and ensure data on OL trap indices are reported weekly. 1.Upload the data on OL Trap Indices to the website 2.Maintain, manage and operate the website 1. Monitor dengue incidence/cases 2. Issue health advisory/alerts LGUS (CHOs, Sanitation) 1. Monitor dengue incidence/cases 2. Monitor OL index 3. Recommend preventive and control measures

Why we need to install the OL Trap System?

 A two in one device: 1.Surveillance tool and at the same time, 2.a trap; reducing the population density (collects eggs).  It is also an attractant trap of which the eggs are deposited on the paddle.  The trap consists of a black container, a small strip of lawanit or tongue depressor and water.  It is used as a means of detecting mosquitoes as well as an approximate gauge of the adult population in an area.  It can be used to estimate fairly well the population of adult mosquitoes in the environment by counting the number of eggs laid on the moist paddle.  In this way, a sudden increase of mosquito population can be detected.

OL Trap Monitoring Name of School: Classroom #/name: Date Installed/Planted: date Collected/Harvested: # of positive traps: # of negative traps: # of lost traps Remarks: Submitted By: Classroom Monitoring Sheet

School Monitoring Sheet Vector Surveillance (Ovilarvicidal Trap) Name of School: ________________________________Date Installed: _________ Name of Nurse/Teacher Coordinator: ________________Date Collected: _________ Room ## of Positive Traps# of negative TrapsLost TrapsRemarks Total OLI = # of + traps / (# of + traps + # of - traps) Submitted By: Noted By:

Teacher/School Coordinator/Nurse SMS ( Keyword, + traps, - traps, lost traps, harvest date) Megamobile ASTI/PCHRD gateway Auto updating of data in website

Back-Up Reporting mechanism A. ASTI flags data when the following instances are encountered: 1.OLI is at alert level (OLI>20%for three consecutive weeks. 2.OLI increases/decreases by 50% compared to previous week 3.School is unable to report data for two consecutive weeks. A system generated email will be sent to all coordinators (DOST, CHD, LGU, DepEd DO) whenever data flags are encountered. For consideration/for discussion: A text blast will be sent to respective coordinators when data flags are encountered B. ASTI will send email to regional coordinators whenever data flags are encountered. C. Reporting of data to City Dengue Coordinators D. Other Back-up mechanisms for implementation
