1 Warm-ups & Theatre Games

2 Theatre is a COLLABORATIVE art form.
A COLLABORATIVE task is produced or conducted by two or more people working together.

3 In Theatre… a group of people working together towards a common goal is called an ENSEMBLE.

4 We begin working together as a group by doing WARM-UPS
We begin working together as a group by doing WARM-UPS!!!! Warm-ups help prepare the ACTOR with the task of performing. There are three (3) types of Warm-ups. VOCAL Warm-ups prepare the voice, PHYSICAL Warm-ups prepare the body, THEATRE GAMES prepare the mind.

5 Vocal Warm-ups Keeps the throat from getting hurt or you from losing your voice You will sound better Less likely to stumble over lines and the audience will be able to understand what you are saying and doing

6 Examples of Vocal Warm-ups
BIG FACE and small face Rolling your Tongue IN your Mouth Controlled Breathing Tongue Twisters —To be said slowly and clearly. You may speed up when confident. They are meant to help you speak better

7 Physical Warm-ups Keeps your muscles from getting pulled or strained
Keeps you from getting cramps Keeps you from messing up with blocking or action Helps to keep you warm and energized!!

8 Examples of Physical Warm-ups
8-count Body Stretching Celebration, Cupid Shuffle or Watch Me (Whip /Nae, Nae dance)

The Vowels (aka AEIOU!) (Loudly and Actively) A E I O U (Quietly and Calmly making the Y with your arms) And Sometimes Y! (This is both a physical and vocal warm-up)

24 YES/NO Approach a person in the circle and say “YES” to them—that is all you may say. You are making a statement to them. Make sure you put character into your statement. The person will then respond “NO” in character with emotion. The s/he will move on to another person with a “YES”. “Yes”s and “No”s should be different. Establish connection and get a response. Use emotion in what you say. Once you have approached someone, you will sit in their spot on the floor.

25 BOING! In lines IN CHARACTER— Jump 8 times to each side.
Jump 1 time to each side. When you get back to the front, jump up and shout BOING!

26 Shake Out! In the circle, facing counter-clockwise IN CHARACTER—
Shake each limb (right arm/hand, left arm/hand, right leg/foot, left arm/food) FIVE TIMES. Then FOUR times. THREE times. TWO time. ONE time. The jump and say BOING!!
