CONDOM USE WITH FEMALE SEX WORKERS AMONG HIV POSITIVE INJECTING DRUG USERS IN SOUTHERN VIETNAM Nguyen Duy Phuc, Tran Phuc Hau, Pham Duy Quang, Khuu Van Nghia, Nguyen Thi Bich Hong, Phan Trong Lan, Nguyen Vu Thuong

CONTENTS 1 BACKGROUND 2 STUDY PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS 3 RESULTS AND DISCUSSION 4 CONCLUSION

1. BACKGROUND IDU: 0,34% population but accounted for 10% PLWH Concentrated in Eastern Europe & Southeast Asia IDU  the major high risk group for the HIV epidemic in VN. VAAC/2014: HIV prevalence among IDU: 11%, very high in Thai Nguyen (34%), Lai Chau (27.7%) Risk for HIV infection among IDU: injecting drugs & unsafe sex  less concerned about safe sex A study in HCMC: 50% IDU used a condom when having sex with FSW IBBS 2009: percentage of IDU reported having sex with FSW was so high but the proportion of condom use is not as high such as that in Danang (45%-50%), Nghe An (39%-63%), Ha Noi (38%-60%) This study aimed to evaluate the condom use status when having sex with FSW among positive HIV IDU so as to inform more effective interventions

2. STUDY PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS Study participants: 1.542 IDUs in 5 southern provinces including DN, TN, TG, VL & HG (2009-2012), with a total 219 HIV infected IDU Study design: cross-sectional Sampling: clustered random sampling based on sampling frame Data entry: Epidata 3.1 Data analysis: Stata 14 Statistical test: Multivariate poisson regression (robust variance)

4. CONCLUSION Consistent condom use with FSW was not high among HIV positive IDU (67.7%) Factors associated with always use of a condom found in this study (injecting in urban sites, living with a wife/girlfriend, self-perceiving of risk for HIV infection and having ever had tested for HIV) should be used to inform harm reduction programs in general and condom promotion program in particular for HIV positive IDU
