How it works is when you turn on the Ignition switch (and all cars do not have to have the key on for the cooling fan to work they are hot all the time(CAUTION: that means they can come on at any time)) power is at the relay ready to go but until you turn on the A\C or the engine is hot it will not come on. But when you turn on that switch power goes through the windings of wire creates a magnetic field pulls over the contacts and connects terminal #30 to 87 and the fan goes on. Some cars will have two fans one comes on when the A/C is turned on and the other goes on when the temperature cooling fan switch turns it on. Cooling fan
