Beam Secondary Shower Acquisition System: BWS pCVD Measurements on SPS BA5 BWS51731 BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 2 Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco PhD. Student Student Meeting 22/06/2015

1. Preparing the pCVD Amplifier 1.1 Transimpedance amplifier configuration Something extremely simple (J. Koopman 08/10/2007 EDA-01716) 1x THS3001 1x Resistor 1 K ohm 2x Resistor 51 ohm BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 3 2 x Decoupling Caps 100nF 2 x Decoupling Caps 6.8uF 2 x SMA Connectors (IN/OUT) 2 x LEMO Connectors (Power +/- 12V) I in V out Vout = Rf * Iin V out (50 ohms Load) = (1K * I in) / 2

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 4 1. Preparing the pCVD Amplifier 1.2 Testing before installation 20 ns 350 mV Using a Photodiode to emulate the Diamond Detector: Aim: Testing the timing behaviour Same electric model (but different values) Similar response (light   charged particles) Laser driver circuit built Modulation with pulse source (3ns pulses) Laser direct modulation SMF 9/125 um connection

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 5 1. Preparing the pCVD Amplifier 1.2 Testing before installation 20 ns 350 mV Using a Photodiode to emulate the Diamond Detector: Aim: Testing the timing behaviour Same electric model (but different values) Similar response (light   charged particles) Laser driver circuit built Modulation with pulse source (3ns pulses) Laser direct modulation SMF 9/125 um connection

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 6 1. Preparing the pCVD Amplifier 1.3 Same Set-up but with CIVIDEC 20dB amplifier (just for curiosity) Faster (obviously) Ringing observed

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 7 1. Preparing the pCVD Amplifier 1.4 Testing before installation (now with radiation, Alpha) CIVIDEC 40dB AmplifierTransimpedance EDA-01716 4.5 mV ~ 13ns 4 mV ~ 13ns 40 mV ~ 7ns pCVD HV = 700V pCVD HV = -700V Thanks to Marcin collaboration!

Connections: 3501876A  HV 3501873A  +12V 3501872A  -12V 3501868A  Signal Cable Distance: 80m up to measurement point BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 8 2. Measurements on SPS BA5 2.1 Testing profiles on BWS51730 (Set-up) BWS51730 H&V pCVD + Amplif Scintillator + PMT + Amplif ~ 1.6m On Surface… Synch (Turn + Bunch Clk)

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 9 2. Measurements on SPS BA5 2.1 Testing profiles on BWS51730 (Single Loss, no Scan done)

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 10 2. Measurements on SPS BA5 2.1 Testing profiles on BWS51730 (Speed: 1 ms-1, Beam : 1e10 ppb, pCVD HV= - 700V) Just showing RAW DATA analysis needed!!

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 11 2. Measurements on SPS BA5 2.1 Testing profiles on BWS51730 (Speed: 1 ms-1, Beam : 1e10 ppb, pCVD HV= + 700V) Just showing RAW DATA analysis needed!! Wider??

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 12 2. Measurements on SPS BA5 2.1 Testing profiles on BWS51730 (Speed: 1 ms-1, Beam : 1e10 ppb, pCVD HV= + 500V) Just showing RAW DATA analysis needed!! Wider??

BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 13 2. Measurements on SPS BA5 2.1 Testing profiles on BWS51730 (Speed: 1 ms-1, Beam : 1e10 ppb, pCVD HV= + 300V) Just showing RAW DATA analysis needed!! Wider??

3. Issues and To-do list 1. Scans data from BWS51730 not stored on DB Need to repeat measurements for comparison 2. Noise studies (FFT, distribution, stdev…) Check correlation with Cable measurement campaign (all systems were off) 3. Profile analysis and processing (To-do) Base-Line removal Integrals by software every 25ns (using Bunch CLK) Voltage on 50ohm  Charge value Select only one bunch Gaussian fit on profiles considering 1ms-1 (Beam sigma comparison) Study non-uniformity of Gaussian profile (Scint + PMT looks “more Gaussian”) Betatron oscillations?? Effect of random particle shower?? Wire vibration?? Noise on HV?? Longer pulse?? … Theories are welcome!! BE-BI-BL Jose Luis Sirvent Blasco (jsirvent@cern.ch) 14 Thanks to Emiliano’s help!
