4 Focus on Reading Responses… Expectations: Set up a Reading Response / readers notebook! Set up a Reading Response / readers notebook!

5 Reading Response … novel. Response #1 What novel are you reading? Why did you choose this particular novel? (Develop your reasons.) Be sure to provide information about the book in your answer. Write to describe what your first impression of the novel is so far. Include specific opinion with support, any likes/dislikes, any questions, any connections (to self, to other text, to world).

6 Reading Response … novel Response #2 Think about all that has happened so far in your novel. Please select one event / occurrence in your novel that reminds you of something else. Describe the event and connection in detail.

7 Reading Response … novel Response #3 Identify the central character(s) in your novel so far. Write a brief description for each…include various types of traits (physical, personality, etc.). Do any of the characters remind you of someone?

8 Reading Response … novel Response #4 Think about the setting of your novel. Try to visualize that setting and then describe it in as much detail as possible (so others can visualize). (You may wish to illustrate the setting at the bottom of the page.)

9 Reading Response … novel Response # 5 What connections are there between the book and your own life? (Think!) Try to develop this answer.

10 Reading Response … novel Response #6 Prepare a message for the class about the book you are reading that you will read word for word to them. (Proofread it carefully so it reads fluently!!)

11 Reading Response… novel Response #7 Use the somebody, wanted, but, so, then template to write a brief summary of the novel in 1 paragraph or less.
