Technique used by an author to express meaning, ideas, or feelings in a written work (e.g., metaphor, simile, alliteration, etc.). The use of these techniques is related to the tone of the piece and the style of the author.

3. Style The way something is written, in contrast to its content.
Example
The way a poem is written can make you think one way but the words you read make you thing another.

4. Refrain A group of words repeated at key intervals in poetry Example
Most songs have a refrain that repeats itself throughout the song, after the chorus.

Lay curled up on the rug
The fire a blaze
The room so snug.

Quiet and still

Content from his fill.
Tatters the cat
Big, fat cat.
