6 Communication & Language Fiction: Children will analyse texts with similar settings including films, comics, picture books and written texts. Children will then plan and write a story with particular focus on describing two specific settings. Non-Fiction: They will develop research and note-taking techniques. Children write their own reports based on their own notes from several sources. Physical Development Dance: Children will have an opportunity to learn some Indian dance. They will learn how hand gestures or ‘mudras’ are used. They will create and link simple dance phrases in the Bhangra style. They will perform dances with an awareness of rhythmic, dynamic and expressive qualities. Creative Development Music & Dance: Children will learn to read music and play the recorder and keyboard as part of an orchestra. They will learn how to use their voice correctly to sing in small groups and as part of a large group. Drama: Children will be performing the story of Rama and Sita.. Art: Children will analyse and create their own Rangoli patterns. Design & Technology (D&T): Children will design and make traditional Indian shadow puppets for performances of the story of Rama and Sita. Personal, Social and Emotional Development Social & Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) Children will have opportunities to appreciate the differences and similarities between themselves, and to value their individual gifts and talents. RE: Children will learn about how harvest time is celebrated in the Christian, Jewish and Hindu faiths. Mathematical Development Children will learn to derive and recall all addition and subtraction facts for each number to 20. They will add or subtract mentally combinations of one-digit and two-digit numbers. They will read, write and order whole numbers to at least 1000. Children will use a variety of charts and graphs to answer questions (focus on weather statistics from India). They will use a variety of scales with a degree of accuracy. India Year 3, Term 1 Knowledge & Understanding of the World Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Use of Word to change fonts, colours of text and add pictures etc to produce reports based on India. Science To look at a variety of food types and identify what a balanced diet contains. Look at ways to take care of our teeth and the problems that may occur if we don’t. What sort of Indian food is there and what part of the food pyramid do they fit into? History & Geography Where is Asia and India? What are the physical characteristics of India (using maps)? What is the weather like in India (using ICT)? What are homes and schools like in India? What would it be like to live in a village in India, such as Chembakolli? How would it be different to live in India rather than in Market Deeping? What is their traditional dress?
