Vertical cores will be drilled down into the existing LHC infrastructure 12 General Infrastructures Services Department LHC connection Long Shutdown 3 (LS3 2024) New HL galleries Long Shutdown 2 (LS2 2019-2020)

Civil Engineering : Layouts Point 1 ATLAS Switzerland IT-4144/SMB/HL-LHC

Site Boundary enlargement for civil works : Point 1 ATLAS 14 Worksite area (approx. 20% increase in ATLAS surface area) Worksite access

The Works for HL-LHC Point 1 15

Underground works at Point 1 16 HL-LHC required underground structures Existing Underground structures CATIA 3D model Emergency escape tunnel option

Phase 4– Construction Management Non-exhaustive list of activities  Phase 4 will require some members of the Consultant’s team to work full time on the CERN site as listed in The Tender Form.  The Consultant will be responsible for the management of the construction of the works, including: - Programme and progress management; -Project cost control; -Safety management; -Dispute and claims management; -Quality control (including survey control); -Provision of “As Built” documents. 17

General Infrastructures Services Department Packages 1 : 1a : Architect contract for building permit submission (CH) 1b : Consultants for detailed design of underground and surface 1c : Contractor for underground and surface works Packages 2 : 2a : Architect contract for building permit submission (F) 2b : Consultants for detailed design of underground and surface 2c : Contractor for underground and surface works 45 Civil engineering contract strategy

Vibration during construction affecting the LHC 19 The main ‘vibration’ activities are driving the civil engineering planning Hence these activities must be undertaken during Long Shutdown 2 of the LHC Roadheaders will be used for excavation

Survey Topics to be discussed 20  Role of SU and SMB/SE Consultants  Available Monuments and controls by CERN  The CERN survey system and CE consultants  As-built surveys (or scans) of new underground structures and crane rails  As-built surveys (or scans) of surface buildings and crane rails  Monitoring of existing underground structures before and during the CE works  Are any new long term survey points required (surface and underground)
