Slide 2 The Problems of Current Superframe (1) If the nodes in network have the different properties, the current superframe structure can’t make them all run under the optimized parameters. –Support a node require the transmission delay does not great than 200ms. The BO must set to the value that less than 4. If other nodes need the big BO, the network can not meet this requirement.

Slide 3 The Problems of Current Superframe (2) Can not support cluster tree networks well. –The beacons may conflict with each other in cluster tree networks. –The beacon and the data packets from other cluster may also conflict. –The cluster headers may interfere with each other.

Slide 6 Multi-Superframes (1) It’s not necessary that the coordinator sleeps during inactive period, because it usually has strong computing capacity and sufficient power supply. At the begin of the inactive period, the coordinator can allocate a new superframe with different parameters.

Nodes can select one or more suitable superframes to synchronize and in other times, they can switch to sleep status to save energy. If the nodes handle an emergency service, it can set to active in all superframes so as to reduce the delay of the packet.

Slide 9 Multi-Superframe ID (1) We divide the original PAN ID (we call it SPAN ID in our proposal) into two parts: –PAN ID, 12 bits long, for distinguishing the different WPANs handled by different coordinator. –SF ID, 4 bits long, for distinguishing the different superframes handled by same coordinator.

10 doc.IEEE802.15-04-0647-00-4b Submission Nov 2004 Liang Li, WXZJ Inc. Slide 10 Multi-Superframe ID (2) The SPAN ID with SF ID equal to (0000) is Base-PAN ID. Base-PAN ID stands for all the superframes handled by one coordinator. We can use mask to calculate Base-PAN ID.

Slide 11 Multi-Superframe ID (3) Compatibility: –The IEEE 802.15.4 nodes will regard the multi- superframes as superframes in different WPANs because they have different IDs. –The number of the PAN ID is reduced but we think a 12 bits PAN ID is enough.

Slide 12 The Priority and Real-Time Voice (1) Each node maintains a priority code, which forbidden nodes access some superframes. In this way, coordinator can only allow voice nodes access one of the multi- superframes. It can allocate enough bandwidth to the voice service and control the delay of the packet.

Slide 13 The Priority and Real-Time Voice (2) When association, the nodes can send the desired priority codes within the association request command frames. The coordinator can send back the actual priority code to nodes based on the requirement of nodes and the current status.

Slide 14 Cluster-Tree Networks (1) The main idea of the multi-superframe can be used to cluster-tree networks. –The cluster headers (CH) can make their superframes interleaved with each others. –When its own superframe is inactive, the CH can be a normal node of its neighbor's cluster. –The nodes can make sync with more than one superframes maintained by different CHs.
