2. This lesson is to be taught using one iPad to which the teacher has access.

3. Direct Instruction: The teacher will use an iPad attached to the Smartboard to project a presentation on three types of asexual propagation and their distinguishing characteristics, as well as a video of different propagation methods.presentationvideo

4. The teacher will scaffold learning by having the students connect their prior knowledge to new by using a graphic organizer to cover three types of asexual propagation and those distinguishing characteristics.

5. Demonstration/Independent practice: The students will review information outside of class, as well as in class each day.review information One type of asexual propagation will be completed in lab each of the three days.lab The teacher will use an iPad to video and take pictures of the process for the students to watch for review.

6. Students will label their containers and will be able to take rooted cuttings home at the end of the rooting period. Air-layered cuttings will be available at the end of Semester 1.Air-layered cuttings Culminating activity: An exit slip will be used at the conclusion of the last hands-on lab. The three methods of asexual propagation will be reviewed and verbally affirmed.exit slip The teacher will show the pictures and video from the iPad as a visual review. Experiments and Scientific Method will be introduced with video and slideshow to guide the students’ attention to the lessons.videoslideshow Students will have been grouped according to PASS (8th) and HSAP (10th) scores, with at least one higher scoring student in each group. This information is made available by the Richland One Career Center during first semester each year.

9. Direct Instruction: The teacher will help the students scaffold learning by having the students connect their prior knowledge to new. By reviewing information from previous science classes, they will discover new ways to cement this information into memory.

10. The iPads will have been preloaded with reference links to video files, scientific information, and audio files. 11. Independent practice: Students will work in their cooperative groups during class time, to give them more support than the teacher can do individually. In these groups, the students will access scientific method situations and determine the best course of action. These situations will be on individual pieces of paper. The group will work on the problems together and turn in one paper to be graded for the group.scientific method situations

12. The first few classes will be focused on scientific titles, hypotheses, independent variables, and dependent variables, as these cause much confusion among students. Some time will be spent practicing graphing data, as many students are very weak in this area.

13. Culminating activity: The students will submit their written paper, present their display board and show their video or presentation to the class.written paper display board These items will be due 2-4 weeks after this lesson at the conclusion of this unit of study.
