The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo US and Mexico signed a treaty to end war on February 2, 1848 Mexico agreed to the Rio Grande as the border of Texas Mexico ceded New Mexico and California to the US The US agreed to pay 15 million dollars for the Mexican cession o Included present day California, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and some of Arizona, Wyoming, and Colorado The treaty guaranteed Mexicans living in the regions: o freedom of religion o protection of property o bilingual elections o open borders
