2 Sunflower The scientific name for a sunflower is Helianthus annuus The sunflower is an annual native plant. A sunflower has a hairy stem, rough leaves, and the head is circular

3 Plant Details A sunflower need full sunlight. They grow up to 5-12 feet tall. It blooms mostly in the summer because it needs full sunlight. Sunflowers can grow in any soil type, but they can not be planted in sandy soil or in clay.

4 Watering your seeds Sunflowers can not handle wet swampy areas. Sunflowers live on natural rain fall.

5 Uses Sunflowers are grown mainly for their seeds and oil. The seeds are used as animal feed and bird feed, but humans can eat them too. The sunflowers oil is used for mainly cooking, because of its high acid and linoleic content
