2 STUDENTS LEARN BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE FAFSA INCLUDING WHY THE FAFSA IS IMPORTANT, KEY DEADLINES, AND MATERIALS NEEDED. STUDENTS DISCUSS BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA DREAM ACT APPLICATION INCLUDING ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA, KEY DEADLINES, AND AID THAT CAN BE ACCESSED. Lesson Objectives 2

3 Breakout 1: What is the FAFSA? (10 minutes) 3 Directions: The FAFSA and California Dream Act Application are critical pieces in the financial aid process. Let’s start first with FAFSA. You have 8 minutes to work with your small group to complete the “An Introduction to FAFSA” handout. Spend the remaining time, about 3-4 minutes, discussing the “Common FAFSA Questions” handout.

4 Breakout 2: What is the California Dream Act Application? (10 minutes) 4 Directions: Undocumented/AB540 students can complete the California Dream Act Application to qualify for state- funded federal aid. You have 5 minutes to complete “The California Dream Act Application” handout. Spend the remaining time, about 2-3 minutes, discussing the “Common Dream Act Application Questions” handout.

5 Reflect and Review (2 minutes) 5 Let’s take 1-2 minutes to debrief around what you learned today and how to you apply some of this information to you life. What information resonated with you about today’s workshop? What information was new to you? What information was most helpful to learn about? Why? What knowledge can you pass on or share with family members?

6 Middle School Exit Survey (15 minutes) 6 Trainers will pass out the “Middle School Exit Survey” to students at the conclusion of the last GLOW workshop. Students have 15 minutes to complete and turn in the assessment. Provide a time check when 5 minutes remain. Students are welcome to leave after submitting their post-assessment.
