Question 1 What was Leonardo’s greatest invention(s) that people later used?

Leonardo da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy, just outside Florence. He was born on “accident”. When Leonardo grew up he was interested in many things. He was most interested in flight. Leonardo made many great inventions through out his life that made a great impact on human life. Some of the things he made was the parachute and many flying contraptions.

The Parachute The parachute was probably one of Leonardo’s most famous inventions. The original parachute was made of 12 foot canvas and wood and string. The parachute’s first test failed because the wood was too heavy and weighed the man testing the parachute, down to his death. Later someone developed a better version of the parachute that ended up a success.

The Parachute This was one of the early designs of the parachute:

The Siege Tower The siege tower is no longer in use, but was very popular in the renaissance era. The siege tower was a tall tower pulled by people or animals. In the front was a bridge that was pulled up or dropped down. The bridge was able to demolish castle walls and let invaders in the city. There was a ladder leading up to the front from the back of the tower. The siege tower is no longer in use, but was very popular in the renaissance era. 8 Question 2 What inspired Leonardo to make what inventions he made?

Inspiration of the parachute Most of Leonardo’s inventions were based off of the elements like air, water, fire, and earth. Leonardo wanted to make an invention that would be able to slow down a person falling through the air and would be able to soften his landing instead of plunging to your death.

Inspiration of the Ornithopter flying contraption Leonardo was always obsessed with the air growing up. He drew birds and other flying things. He made to ornithopeter contraptions. The vertical and the bicycle ornithopeter. The vertical ornithopeter had the wings are arranged in pairs. The bicycle ornithopeter was powered by man that made the wings flap each time he pedaled the pedals.

Question 3 Who tested each of Leonardo’s inventions?

Who tested the siege tower? Since Italy was at war constantly Leonardo was hired to make a machine that could storm walls and let their troops in. Many warlords wanted more territory. Leonardo designed the tower and the warlord tested it first. Nobody knows who tested the siege tower first but the siege tower was used in combat regardless of testing or not. 14 Who tested the parachute? Faust Vrancic was the first to test it in 1559 but this test failed and resulted in his death. Almost 230 years later in the year 1785 Jean Pierre Blanchard tested the first successful parachute drop from a tower somewhere in Europe.
