3  Special Class Authorization  Increasingly popular with CTC  Supplemental authorization IN ADDITION TO the Teacher Librarian Services Credential  Title: SCA in Information and Digital Literacy for Teacher Librarians

4  TLs can be Instructors of Record  TLs can teach in self-contained classrooms (including the library)  TLs can still collaborate (think team-teaching)

5  Info/digital lit as a separate course (required or elective) at transition points  Info/digital lit as honors course  Info/digital lit class one day a week (activity, elective or connected to another course)  Info/digital lit content embedded in a core course that TL teaches or coteaches  Info/digital lit content embedded in a core course that TL teaches  Info lit course as a research or study skills course  Computer/technology course  Computer/tech sessions taught one day a week as an activity or part of another course  Digital citizenship training (required or elective) as at transition points  Digital citizenship training taught one day a week as an activity  Digital citizenship training done as an intensive unit (separate or part of a course, such as social issues or health education)  Cybrarian available via web/Skype to classes

7 Information Theory and Digital Literacy as an Academic Content Area  Know information theory and digital literacy, including the nature, architecture, and cycle of information, technology resources and tools.  Model information literacy: how to access, evaluate, process, use, integrate, generate, and communicate information.  Demonstrate competency in transliteracy.  Articulate how formats and communication channels impact information and how information and ideas are processed and transformed using digital tools.  Model and communicate ethical, legal and safe use of information and technology, including digital citizenship.

8 Pedagogy of Information Theory and Digital Literacy in Multiple Learning Environments  Using both traditional and digital methods, design and provide curriculum in information theory and digital literacy to enable students to process information purposefully, ethically and effectively.  Assess student interactions and learning and develop interventions to optimize student learning.  Implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate content instruction, including different formats and venues (e.g., face-to-face, distance learning, and other digital environments) for diverse student populations

9  Typical delivery: 2 online courses  Develop the program  Give intent and propose program to CTC  Get CTC and agency approval  Wait for the state to finalize regulations for SCA  Schedule and staff courses  Offer the program

10  Earn your TL services credential at an approved TL/SCA program site  OR have a current TL services credential and take 2 courses  OR see if current TL services credential suffices (check with service provider)  Apply for SCA  Let your administrator know!
