1 PERFECT SQUARES What does that mean?

2 SQUARE  You could make a list of “perfect squares” by thinking of numbers of objects where these objects could be arranged in a square. For example: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, etc. objects could be arranged in the shape of a square. If one had 25 pennies, those pennies could be arranged in a square of 5 rows and 5 columns of pennies. Thus, perfect squares obtain their name.

3 Squares and Square Roots Notice that 16 objects can be arranged into a square of 4 rows and 4 columns. Note the relationship between the square and the square root. 16 is the “perfect square.” The square root of 16 is 4. The root gives the dimensions of the square. The total number of objects in the square is the perfect square.
