3 The 1920s The 1920s was an era that made a great statement. With new technology, prosperity, change for women and African Americans, but also, great defeat. The Roaring ’20s was and age to never be forgotten.

4 Warren G. Harding Republican President from 1921-1923 Teapot Dome Scandal Reduced taxes for rich Americans with the Revenue Act of 1921. Originated term “Founding Fathers”

5 Laissez-Faire An economic environment in which transactions between private parties are free from government restrictions, tariffs, and subsidies, with only enough regulationsto protect property rights. French: “Let them do”

6 Eighteenth Amendment Prohibition of alcoholic beverages in the United States. Production, transport and sale of alcohol illegal

7 Prohibition Made alcohol illegal. Organized crimes increased in power. Corruption extended among law enforcement officials.

10 Flappers New breed of western women in the ’20s Wore short skirts, bobbed hair, listened to jazz, and flaunted their dislike for “acceptable” behavior. Seen as brash for wearing too much makeup, drinking, casual sex, smoking, driving, and flouting social and sexual norms.
