BIB271 Joshua Encouragement from God’s commission (vv. 1-2) God commissioned Joshua to achieve three things:  Lead the people into the land,  Defeat the enemy,  Claim their inheritance Day 2 Encouragement from God’s…

BIB271 Joshua Encouragement from God’s promises (vv. 3-6) God promised Joshua the Israel would enter the land. God promised victory over the enemy: “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you or forsake you. (Josh 1.5)” God promised Joshua He would divide the land as an inheritance for the conquering tribes Day 2 Encouragement from God’s…

BIB271 Joshua The people encourage their leader (1:16-18) 16 They answered Joshua, saying, "All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. 17 "Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you…” Josh 1:16-17a The people encourage their leader

BIB271 Joshua A Convert in Canaan Joshua Chapter 2 “It was by faith that Rahab the prostitute did not die with all the others in her city who refused to obey God.” Heb 11.31a Day 2 A Convert in Canaan

BIB271 Joshua Rahab’s Courageous faith (Josh 2.1-7) The New Testament references to her (Heb. 11:31; James 2:25) describe her as a harlot. The Greek word translated to harlot in the Text is porne (por’-nay), a word meaning ”“a woman who sells her body for sexual uses.” Day 2 Courageous Faith

BIB271 Joshua Lying is never justified or approved by God (Prov 12.22). James is speaking of Rahab’s faith through actions to protect the spies and later help them to escape. God did not need Rahab’s lies to protect the spies – one can be sure they would have been protected even without her having to lie. Rahab’s Courageous faith (Josh 2.1-7) Day 2 Courageous Faith

BIB271 Joshua Rahab’s Confident faith (Josh 2.8-11): Rahab’s Courageous faith (Josh 2.1-7) Day 2 Confident Faith

BIB271 Joshua Rahab’s Confident faith (Josh 2.8-11): Rahab’s Courageous faith (Josh 2.1-7) Rehab’s Concerned faith (Josh. 2:12-14) Day 2 Concerned Faith

BIB271 Joshua Rahab’s Confident faith (Josh 2.8-11): Rahab’s Courageous faith (Josh 2.1-7) Rehab’s Concerned faith (Josh. 2:12-14) Rahab’s Covenant faith (Josh 2:15-24) Day 2 Covenant Faith

BIB271 Joshua It’s important to note that Rahab and her family were saved by faith in the God of Israel and not by faith in the robe hanging out the window. The fact that she hung the rope from the window was proof that she had faith, just as the blood of the slain lamb put on the doorposts in Egypt proved that the Jews believed God’s Word. Faith in the living God means salvation, and faith in His covenant gives assurance; but faith in the token of the covenant is religious superstition and can give neither salvation nor assurance. --Wiersbe, Be Strong, 42 Day 2 Covenant Faith
