PurposeExpand AGI Products, Services, and Partnerships Enhance geoscience awareness by engaging all sectors of society and developing new approaches to advancing understanding, especially among non- technical audiences. In practice, the Center functions to raise questions about AGI’s audiences, approaches, and opportunities.

Information Resource Development Area Goal: Maintain a steady stream of current, value-added geoscience information resources that are relied on in diverse sectors of society for education, public information, and decision-making. Strategy: Establish a cycle of reports and other information products developed independently and/or in association with other Center efforts, especially meetings convened by the Center. Identify and prioritize need areas.

Consulting and Collaboration Area Goal: Support diverse geoscience projects by providing needed expertise in consultation and/or collaboration with outside organizations, while also enhancing the Center’s capacity to engage in an increasingly wide range of efforts to promote geoscience. Strategy: Build on existing partnerships while establishing relationships with new organizations that can help expand the Center’s ability to reach varied audiences. For example: EDC, Everfi, ETX/Inspark, Google, JpGU, MiStar, WestEd, Xtronaut.

Convening Meeting Area Goal: Promote the development and dissemination of geoscience-related information and ideas by bringing together diverse groups of stakeholders in virtual and face-to-face meetings. Strategy: Maintain a full schedule of Critical Issues Forums, Education Summits, webinars, town hall meetings, and so on. These will include the fall 2016 Forum (water), 2017 Education Summit, and NGSS-ESS Assessment webinar (Feb. 11).

Innovative Starter Projects Area Goal: Initiate innovative projects, especially those that support and expand the programming of AGI departments and/or to address needs within the geoscience community. Strategy: Work with AGI Directors to assess areas of need within AGI programs, then design projects and identify funding sources to respond to those priorities. For example: Energy Education in Ecuador (Schlumberger), “Geoscience in the Center” K-5 project (Dorr Foundation).

Develop marketing plan and metrics – Salisbury University class Design “Sector Reviews” – e.g., medicine, insurance, … Identify audiences that are being reached Engage with sector representatives to promote geoscience Promote geoscience as being involved with innovation—a “vital science” Continue to expand resources developed and disseminated by CIP and ERN Connect CIP and ERN program components in mutually reinforcing ways

1. Develop messaging that is clear and concise regarding the mission of the Center for Geoscience and Society 2. Create an approach (approaches?) to promoting the Center to sectors of society outside of the geosciences (e.g., medicine, travel, retail) as a source of information and potential partner 3. Identify ways to measure the Center’s reach to audiences, impact, and mission balance 4. Generate a list of potential avenues for conveying the importance of geoscience to sectors outside of geoscience (e.g., medicine, travel, retail), including the media that might help with that process 5. Conceptualize media (e.g., brochures, video) that can be used to promote the Center
