4 ANNOUNCEMENTS: Please remember to text or email to RSVP for the Saturday 12/7 9am-12pm or Wednesday 12/11 6:30-8:30 writing workshops. Here’s the agenda for each workshop: 1). Saturday: You will arrive at nine and start a self-paced essay assignment to replace or eliminate the missing work mark for all assignment entries relating to the Unit 1 Essay. Why would you do this? Writing an essay effectively and earning an A, B, or C builds confidence and shows your ability and readiness for senior English. There are a lot of other benefits, but I’ll keep this short. If you have a B and completed your essay, I have a host of shorter writing projects to “workshop” and complete. These are related to writing assignment skills in the gradebook and will count for revision. 2) Wednesday: Hour 1 will be a seminar make up. Hour 2 will be a finals and study review prep strategy session. (*All Handouts available to workshop participants will also be posted online – see AmLit HW Calendar – and available to all, regardless of your attendance at one or both workshops)

5 Class Activities 1. Bell Work: Two sentences, correcting using standard grammar and mechanics proofreading marks. (Chloe, shoes, cookies – key word reminder for sentences) 2. HW Check: All homework was checked. Students who did not complete Ch questions for 17-19 were encouraged to do so TONIGHT (second chance). 3. Video (second period: our discussion ran longer so we didn’t watch this – but it is assigned for HW): We reviewed our Pro-Con arguments about Culture Shock Series Documentary “Born to Trouble: The Controversy of Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn” 4. Discussion Chapters 17-19: Using your discussion questions we discussed the irony and allusions in the Grangerford-Shepherdson chapters.

6 HOMEWORK DUE TUESDAY 1. (If not already done) Read Chapters 17, 18, 19 and write 3 or more clarifying and curious questions. We will focus on Chapter 20 in class Tuesday. 2. Watch Part 4 and Part 5 of the documentary (part four link and part five link) and write all of the new pro/con arguments that you hear and INFER. You may want to do this homework with a friend so you can pause and talk about it. link
