17 Roman Empire Timeline In your notes create a timeline of the Roman Empire. 1) Rome starts as a republic and conquers a large amount of territory. 2) Roman army brings back slaves who takes jobs from middle class Romans, which causes riots. 3) Julius Caesar is called to restore order. He is then named dictator for life in 44 B.C. 4)Some Romans feared Caesar would become a new king so they assassinated him. 5) After another civil war Julius Caesar's adopted son Octavian becomes and changes his name to Augustus. 6) After the reign of Augustus there were "good emperors" like Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius. 7) The Pax Romana ended with the death of Marcus Aurelius. 8) Emperor Diocletian divides the empire into two hoping to make it easier to rule.
