Understanding Universal Jobmatch

Universal Jobmatch is part of DWP’s Digitalisation Programme. It is a job posting and matching service run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) which has been running since November 2012. DWP wish to encourage jobseekers to get on-line as a large proportion of jobs are advertised online and digital skills are becoming more vital in daily life but particularly for job searches and most jobs require some understanding of computer use. Signing up for UJM will mean that participants will need to set up an email account and regularly log onto the system to update their CV, find out updates and apply for jobs. What is Universal Jobmatch?

How it works… Anyone looking for work is able to set up an account & upload or build their CVs 24/ 7. The new technology automatically matches their CV’s & skills to suitable jobs that are posted on the service. The service also helps highlight any skills gaps that a jobseeker may have on their CV and signpost them to where they can get support to address this. Jobseekers can choose to receive alerts & whenever a new job is placed that matches their job search criteria, they will receive an email notification about that job.

The introduction of this new streamlined service benefits both jobseekers & employers by speeding up the recruitment process. It helps job-seekers to more actively & efficiently find work online. It also means that they have to set up an email which is essential for communication for most jobs. They can search jobs from all around the UK but there is also a chance to look for jobs abroad too. The benefits…

For employers it means that they can contact unemployed people more effectively meaning that they don’t need to pay recruitment company service charges. It is also useful for JobCentre Plus Advisors who can easily log onto their clients profiles & check updates, recommend, send alerts & access the profile during weekly meetings. The benefits…
