4 Code of Virginia states that: Standard 7 (Student Academic Progress) must account for at least 40% of a principal’s evaluation*. *SGPs are recommended, when available and appropriate.

5 Code of Virginia states that: A summative rating is required for principal evaluations.

6 And…  A 3- or 4-point scale is recommended for principal evaluations.

7 Sample Scale for Standard 1: Exemplary: The principal actively and consistently employs innovative and effective leadership strategies that maximize student academic progress and result in a shared vision of teaching and learning that reflects excellence.

8 Proficient: The principal fosters the success of all students by facilitating the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of a shared vision of teaching and learning that leads to student academic progress and school improvement.

9 Developing/Needs Improvement: The principal inconsistently fosters the success of students by facilitating the development, communication, implementation, or evaluation of a shared vision of teaching and learning that leads to student academic progress and school improvement.

10 Unacceptable: The principal does not foster the success of all students by facilitating the development, communication, implementation, or evaluation of a shared vision of teaching and learning that leads to student academic progress and school improvement.
