9 Artboard Management  Can’t see my Artboard  What if I can’t find the artboard?  Solution:  View>Fit Artboard in Window  Might also try zooming out using Zoom tool (Or use shortcut key Ctrl+ and Ctrl-)

10 Fill and Stroke colors:

11 Choose colors… Open Swatches panel Choose fill and stroke colors Cyan and black, 4 pt stroke Control area = top

13 Drawing Shapes  (1) Click and drag  Select the rectangle tool  Create rectangle by selecting the tool and dragging  (2) Perfect circle, or square: Shift-drag (2” x 2” ) fill=a shade of red  (3) Click and Type desired dimensions: (try 2” by 1”) fill=yellow)  (4) use transform tool: 3” x 4”  The box you sometimes see is called the Bounding Box. It can be used to size the shape…It also can be hidden. ( View>Show/Hide Bounding Box.  Grab a corner and drag to resize

14  Specifying Stroke parameters in Control area OR W indow>Stroke :

15 Practice: Basic Shapes  Select all—shift-click, delete  Draw a red ellipse (circle 2 “ diameter ).with a Black, 4pt (point) stroke…click and type on the artboard the desired size.  Shift-drag a perfect yellow square 3” x 3” with a pale blue 5 pt stroke. Use the transform tool to resize the circle 3 x 3

16 Ellipse !!  Ha!..pickup line maybe…love your ellipse!! or my, you have really fabulous ellipse.!!!

17 The Arrows  The black arrow (Called Selection ) selects an entire shape. The white arrow, ( Direct Select ) part of a shape.  Click the Black arrow and “click away” …i.e.in a blank area (Chooses nothing)   Choose white arrow and click an any anchor point, now drag it: Ctrl-Z

18 Layers:Windows>Layers Drag circle on top of square What happened? Why? reverse

19 Pathfinder: centering  Select the two shapes to be centered (Shift-select) second one   Select the Align tab Look for align vertical centers and align center horizontal

20 Make Changes: Drag above ellipse What happened? Called stacking order Blue box indicates the actual art Click the actual ellipse Observe the blue box now.

21 Adding anchor points  Select the square( Selection OR Direct Select )  Hide the Bounding box for now  Click on a path and choose Add anchor point Tool  Select the new anchor point (White arrow/direct select) and drag: Ctrl-Z (What does that do?

22 Some editing  Find scale tool and scale the rectangle to 75%  Find rotate tool and rotate the square 90 degrees  Could also use Transform panel 

23 Text 7 variations Draws using fill characteristics;. Find character in control area Can also add a stroke on the text

24 Panel menus: tiny arrows: Use to add additional colors, symbols Basically all panels have menus

25 Adding More colors  Click swatches menu panel: and then open Swatch library

27 Symbol sprayer  Draw tree trunk, brown, no stroke  Choose your symbol, get one from symbol library  Re-Size, if necessary---double-click the tool, modify the size ( I chose.5 in)  Try leaves to spray

28 Cropping  Maybe want a piece of your artboard for a web site you’re doing. The cropping tool is actually called the Artboard tool

29 Blending  let’s blend a rectangle to a star (a morph)  Draw an orange rectangle and a green star  Star tool is under Rectangle tool  Select both : (Drag over both, or select one, then shift-click on the second object)

30 Blending…  Object>Blend>Blend Options: Says to Blend in 8 steps Then, Object>Blend>Make:

31 20 points… in class homework #3…1-2 of you  New document named Type Practice  Find the pencil tool….it might be hiding…  Use it to draw a squiggly line (3 points)  Type your name(s) on the line using comic sans, 25 points type, cyan color (4 pts)  If you see a red overflow box, extend the pencil line by clicking the last anchor and extending the line using the pencil line again; then slide the vertical line OR delete and start over using a longer path  Rotate your name 45 degrees so it is almost vertical. (3 pts)  Add a mad science symbol anywhere on your page.(5 points)  Keep reading…not done yet

32 Sprayer (5 more pts)  Create a tree with lips for “leaves ” that you spray on (5 points)  Crop your name and tree  Print the page 20 points total
