4. CREATING AN ARTBOARD Open Adobe Illusrator. Choose File > New. Adjust the number of Artboards to two. Change the Units to Inches.

5. CREATING AN ARTBOARD Adjust the Width to 8.5 Adjust the Height to 11 Click OK Select File > Save As > Project_Name.ai

6. SHAPES Locate the shape tool on the toolbar. Right click to display the other shape tools. Practice using the rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, polygon and star tools. Shape tool

7. COLOR Make sure you have clicked the Selection Tool. Click on a shape with the Selection Tool to select it. Double-click the color square showing the shape’s current color. This opens the Color Picker. Selection tool Color square Color picker

8. COLOR Select the color you would like to fill your shape. Repeat these steps for each shape. Selection tool Color square Color picker

9. TEXT Locate the Type Tool on the toolbar. Click and drag inside each shape. Type the color in each shape. You can adjust the font size in the application toolbar. Type tool Font size

10. SYMBOLS Locate the Symbols icon on the right side of your screen. Click the symbols library to reveal additional symbol options. Choose a symbol by clicking and dragging the symbol on to your right artboard. Symbols icon Symbols library

11. EFFECTS Locate the Effect tab on the top menu bar of your workspace. Select a shape, symbol or text on one of your artboards. Explore the different Effect options and their dropdown menus. Choose a different effect for each shape, text and symbol. Effects tab
