Managing Overflow Work There is always work to be done in a law firm. Just ask your full-time paralegals! Maybe your budget will not support hiring another full-time paralegal right now, or maybe there is no physical space in the office. By utilizing a contract paralegal, you have the ability to assign specific projects for completion, therefore only paying for what you want! Doesn’t that sound like a better way to work?

Controlling Costs of Employees There is no doubt about it, employees are expensive! At minimum, in order to attract and retain good employees, you will have to provide health insurance, sick time, at least two weeks of vacation time, and a retirement plan. Don’t forget to add in all those lunch hours, meetings that drag on too long, personal phone calls, the cost of your office space, and the equipment you provide.

Controlling Costs of Employees A contract paralegal is only interested in providing services for an agreed upon rate. There is no paying for down time with a contract paralegal! If you are paying a full-time employee $25.00 an hour based on a 40 hour work week, you are paying $52,000 in salary alone. Add in the costs of benefits and you are now spending around $65,000 for your full-time employee.

Profit Estimates of Contract Paralegal For purposes of ease, let’s assume your contractor’s rate is $50.00 an hour, and you will bill her work out at $100.00 an hour. What if you only had one deposition every week that you needed summarized, and it took six hours to complete the work? That’s a profit of $15,600 for your firm annually. Let’s dive deeper into this.

Profit Estimates of Contract Paralegal Weekly Hours Assigned to Contract Paralegal Annual Profit to Firm 10$26,000.00 15$39,000.00 20$52,000.00
