Communication:  The use of communication is to ensure proper safety of workers and the rig’s load.  Use of hand signals is the main form of communication when the load is being moved.  Rigging communication can be conducted in various forms including:  Verbal signals  Radio signals  Hand signals

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME): Hand Signals  Hand signals that are used have been standardized to avoid any confusion that could create a dangerous situation  Hand signals provide clear instructions from the person signaling to the crane operators and any others who could be affected by the rig’s operations  To ensure workers’ safety it is important to know the basic signals of communication

5. Rigging Communication Signals  Hoist: To move the load up  Lower: To move the load down  Use Main Hoist: To use the main hoist of the crane

7. Rigging Communication Signals  The boom and the load are two separate sections. Therefore you can signal conduct two separate movements at once
