Study Hall: working. Assigned seats.

Warm Up—3 minutes Is it True (T) or False (F)? Correct the false statements to make them true! 1. 100% of the Earth’s atmosphere is Oxygen – T or F 2. The layer of the atmosphere known as the troposphere is closest to the Earth’s surface – T or F 3. Liquid water has been found on Mars – T or F 4. Asteroids are known as ‘dirty snowballs’ – T or F 5. Meteors do not burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere and they land on the Earth’s surface.

Warm Up—3 minutes 1. 100% of the Earth’s atmosphere is Oxygen – False oxygen is only 21% 2. The layer of the atmosphere known as the troposphere is closest to the Earth’s surface – True 3. Liquid water has been found on Mars – False scientist believe Mars shows evidence of ice crystals 4. Asteroids are known as ‘dirty snowballs’ – False comets 5. Meteors do not burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere and they land on the Earth’s surface. False meteorites do not burn up and crash into the Earth

Quiz Results and Tracking You will receive your quiz back along with your tracking sheet Objective: Seasons, Tides and Eclipses 6.E.1.1 Add quiz results to your tracking sheet: Write in your score and color in the appropriate number of boxes

Write this down…. 1. Have your parent or guardian sign your test 2. On a separate sheet of paper write every question missed along with the correct answer DUE FRIDAY, FEB. 28 TH !!! Want to improve your score?

QUIZ OUR NEXT QUIZ WILL BE ON FRIDAY, FEB 28 TH COVERING PLANETS / SOLAR SYSTEM HOW EARTH CAN SUPPORT LIFE 19 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS and 1 SHORT ANSWER

Complete your Atmosphere Diagram

5 Atmospheric Layers: Troposphere: closest to the ground, where all weather happens (clouds found here) Stratosphere: ozone layer, where airplanes fly Mesosphere: where meteors/rock fragments burn up Thermosphere: where northern lights ‘Auroras’ occur Exosphere: where spacecraft/satellites orbit, upper limit of Earth’s atmosphere WRITE IN NOTEBOOK

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaikvaAw2nk Video on layers of the Atmosphere

3. Earth contains liquid water Only planet in solar system to contain liquid water Liquid water is essential for life to exist If we were closer to the sun, our oceans would boil away while if we were farther away, our oceans would freeze WRITE IN NOTEBOOK

Besides Earth, scientists would be most likely to find life on Mars because they have evidence of ice crystals!

Gallery Crawl 1.You will be completing a ‘Gallery Crawl’ today between our classroom and Mr. Canosa’s classroom 2.Each classroom will host their own ‘gallery’ 3.You will be given 2 page headers 4.You will record information from each ‘gallery exhibit’ in your notebook

Gallery Crawl Example You will need to find the next 2 empty pages in your notebook You will place 1 header strip along the top of 1 notebook page Use the glue stick to glue your page headers into your notebook – remember you will be doing this on 2 different pages Look at Mrs. Maas’ example as she walks around the room

Gallery Crawl Expectations for behavior: 1.You will be assigned a station to start at 2.You will have 2 :30 seconds in each station 3.When the timer sounds, you will rotate to the next station within the ‘gallery’ If at anytime, you are not on task, you will be removed from the ‘gallery crawl’ and given an alternative textbook reading / question assignment

Solar System Worksheet Complete this if not done earlier

Review Solar System Worksheet Follow along as I project the information onto the whiteboard

1.Read the article – Class set 2.Answer the questions in your notebook with your table partner 3.Answers need to be written in COMPLETE sentences for ANY credit. 20 minutes to read and answer all questions Discovery Ed: READING ACTIVITY
