P OLITICAL F IGURES AND W ARS /M ILITARIES In the 1980’s, there was a lot of things blooming and becoming big, from politics to trends to music to art movements. around that time in 1981 - Ronald Reagan, 1984 Ronald Reagan, 1989 - George Bush were the presidents of our time. Mr. Reagan was the 40th president of the United States and was also known as the “Great Communicator” people loved him and not only was he the President but at a point he was also an actor that was adored Also in those times as well was a rough patch and there were a few times where he was almost assassinated, he was a successful president for a good 8 years and June 5, 2004 is when he had passed away. Towards the end of the 80’s is when Mr. George Bush Sr. had taken over office, who was also a very successful man that believed in family traditions and hard working. Both presidents in the time we’re republicans and worked hard towards fixing the economy. During this time there was a lot of controversy within the United States because of the art movement. Art was a huge thing during this time and a lot of members were discouraged and some were considered indecent because of what they made or if it was against most religious views, a lot of people fought over racism and patriotism, they would butt heads because of political views, culture struggles and expression. A lot happened especially because the first Amendment gave the freedom of speech but riots happened quite often.

M USIC During the 1980’s was a time where music was rapidly growing and it went from different genres such as pop, R&B really famous artist during the time would be Michael Jackson, the king of pop, Madonna, the queen of pop, Bon Jovi, an all American Rock band, Guns n Roses, an all American hard rock band also Run DMC, a hip-hop group that was loved. Around the time, cassette tapes were extremely popular and range from prices such as $5.99 to 13.99. Albums were sold like crazy for these artist and everything ranged from what you would love and what you wouldn’t everyone always had a go to. Concerts were big, albums were sold, music videos played on certain hours, everyone listened or knew of these beloved artist that made a huge impact on music in today's society, in which I can honestly say that I love listening to every single genre, such as these artist even though I’m 18 years old in the year 2013.

4. T RENDS In the 1980’s, there were plenty of trends like art or artist and fashion happened to be the biggest thing around. It was bright, outrageous, you wanted to stand out back then and be someone else. Big pants, bright colors, tights, high socks, were definitely in. You wanted to show off your body, your hair, where big was better, boys weren’t afraid to wear pink and girls weren’t afraid to wear tight clothing because no one said anything and no one really cared because back then everyone was free minded. It was still a struggle, people still spoke their mind and said whatever but bring bright, open and flashy was in, was what made an impact and now in 2013, bright, tight and nice is still in. MC Hammer wore parachute pants, in which, people still love their jumpers until this day and or still rock a perm such as old Asian ladies, but whatever it is, it makes everyone's styles unique, like until this day, I still wear Vans and Levi jeans. Lots of kids wear snapbacks which started back in these times to Jordan shoes. Fashion is big, you wanted to dress to impress.

5. S PORTS In the 1980’s sports were a big thing, they’ve always been throughout the years. The Olympics were big and your everyday sports that everyone loves today bloomed as well. Nebraska goes against Miami and failed in 1984 in the Rose bowl, but they’re still an amazing team! Mike Tyson destroys Michael Spinks in 91 seconds in 1988 heavyweight title fight. In 1986, Chicago bears beat the Patriots by 36! During these times, it was a big thing for sports, football, basketball, hockey, you name it!

6. I NFLUENTIAL PEOPLE, A RTIST, I NVENTORS, ETC During the 1980’s art, famous people, presidents, they were all a big thing. They all ranged from Ronald Reagan, who was the president for a good 8 years. Michael Jackson and Madonna who were the king and queen of pop and bloomed extremely during their time to shine. Avant who was a street artist that painted and sprayed the streets with what he wanted. At Museum's, artist like Van Gogh or Picasso’s paintings were going for as much as 3.3 million dollars and tickets for shows were usually free.

7. S IGNIFICANT E VENTS, I TEMS, I NDUSTRIES During these times we’re huge for African Americans and all sorts of races. They were blooming on TV, with literature and art. Books like Stephen Kings were selling like crazy. The Cosby Show first aired on TV in 1988, the famous Whoopi Goldberg was in plenty of movies along with Denzel Washington. There were a lot of riots between the government and artist because of what they didn’t like and what disturbed them. But things were changing and changing drastically. This is when CD- Rom, Apple and Windows were being created. The very first digital cellular device was being invented along with a lot of everyday gadgets we use today.
