3 Description of Learning Center Program English Language Arts 14 students 3 leveled groups with rotation between small-group grade level reading instruction Read Naturally and writing stations. Scientific Learning Fast Forward program during Connections. Math 13 students 4 leveled groups with rotation between small-group grade level instruction ALEKS with guided/supported practice stations. Science 8 students Small group grade-level integrated thematic core units and projects. 4 Research-Based Intervention Program English Language Arts – Scientific Learning FastForward Program Scientific Learning Program recommendation: Students can achieve, on average, a 1 to 2 year gain in reading skills in 8 to 12 weeks using one of their prescribed protocols: o 30 minutes each day, five days a week, for 12 to 16 weeks. o 40 minutes each day, five days a week, for 9 to 13 weeks. o 50 minutes each day, five days a week, for 6 to 10 weeks. o 90 minutes each day, five days a week, for 4 to 7 weeks. 14 students: Level 2 – 1 Student Level 3 – 6 Students Level 4 – 7 Students 4 times/week (30 minutes/session) Program began December 2011 3/27/20124 White Hill Learning Center Update

7 Research-Based Intervention Program Math – ALEKS Program The UC Regents and ALEKS Corporation make no specific implementation protocol recommendation. However, the program defaults are set at a minimum of 3 sessions per week at 15 minutes per session. 13 students 3 times/week (20 minutes/session) The published “Average Historical Student Learning Rates” using ALEKS are ~90% per year (197 topics mastered at minimum session implementation) Based on ALEKS program research, an appropriate progress goal of mastering 50-100 math concepts was set (per semester - 219 total topics) for our students Program began September 2011 3/27/20127 White Hill Learning Center Update
