3. Why the elderly are increasing Low birth rate so % of elderly looks higher. Improved health service. Improved housing. Relative wealth compared to recent past. Cheaper healthier foods available. Health awareness is much higher. The welfare state providing “cradle to grave” treatment.

4. Implications Increasing demand for health care bed blocking pensions will need to be provided for longer more demands for specialist housing Tax burden falling on fewer shoulders. Present generation will have to make provisions for their retirement.
