1 MCJROTC CLASSROOM GUIDELINES Sergeant Major Hall LtCol Chuck Megown

2 APPROPRIATE GREETINGS  Why are appropriate greetings important? Professional work environment A sign of confidence Give and receive respect  How to enter the classroom? Shake hand of instructor Make eye-contact Appropriate greeting… “GOOD MORNING, SIR/SERGEANT MAJOR.”

3 APPROPRIATE GREETINGS  How to address an instructor? Stand, Greeting, Rank, Last Name No talking when an instructor is speaking If an emergency… “EXCUSE ME, RANK, LAST NAME…”  How to address fellow cadets? Greeting, Cadet Rank, Last Name Other cadets if senior in rank… stand when talking to them No talking when another cadet is speaking (asking or answering a question; addressing the class)

4 APPROPRIATE GREETINGS  How to ask a question in the classroom? Raise hand Wait to be called upon by the instructor When called upon, stand and ask your question in a voice that can be heard by all students Remain standing until directed to be seated by the instructor

5 APPROPRIATE GREETINGS  Who else? Other Cadets Parents Teachers School Officials Custodians Coaches City Officials Adults

6 ACCOUNTABILITY  Daily routine for accountability/attendance. Stow gear in wall locker Textbook, notebook & writing utensil on assigned desk Formation  Class structure and leadership responsibilities for accountability. Platoon Sergeant forms the platoon. (no talking in formation) Squad Leader forms the squad (by height) and reports “ALL PRESENT” or “CADET HALL ABSENT.” Platoon Sergeant reports accountability to Platoon Commander. Platoon Commander reports accountability to Instructor.

7 ACCOUNTABILITY  Accountability during emergency drills. Movement of platoon by squad sequence, in column of files. (no talking in formation) Platoon Commander leads the platoon formation to designated area. Platoon Sergeant is the last person in formation. Upon arrival to designated area, the Platoon Sergeant reforms the platoon and follows the same accountability procedures as when arriving to class.

9 PERSONAL GROWTH & RESPOSIBILITY  Report to class prepared Be on time Move with a purpose… wall locker, desk, formation… Two sharpened pencils (no sharpening of pencils during class) Two black ink pens (no other colors for assignments) Notebook for writing notes Correct uniform  Leadership… inspect what you expect Inspect squad members for readiness and solve the problem at the lowest level… “I forgot my pencil…”

10 PERSONAL GROWTH & RESPOSIBILITY  Take Pride in OUR Classroom No food, candy or gum All drinks must be in a container with a closeable lid No personal electronic devices Police of the classroom are inspected by Squad Leaders prior to dismissing the class (deck and desk clean/chairs and desk aligned and pushed- in/textbooks uniform/wall lockers empty and closed ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES!

11 TRAINING SCHEDULE  Located on website If absent… you are expected to study assignments on the training schedule Missing Work policy is located on the website.  First 9 weeks (Quarter) of the semester  First semester focus: FOUNDATIONS OF LEADERSHIP

12 TRAINING SCHEDULE  MONDAYS – Academics  TUESDAYS – Physical Training (PT)  WEDNESDAYS – Uniform Inspection  THURSDAYS – Conduct of Drill (COD)  FRIDAYS – Academic Evaluation

14 HEAD CALL  Nautical term for restroom is HEAD  Request permission to make a HEAD CALL.  Platoon Sergeant may authorize one student at a time
