JAYME MASON 2 ND HOUR CAREER TECHNOLOGY FOUNDATION Crocheting Hats

Background information I have been working on crocheting a hat every week since genius hour started and will continue to do so for a few more weeks to donate them for babies. I am going to donate them to families with little ones in need.

Getting started The first thing I needed was my crocheting hook  I like to use smaller hooks to keep the stitches tight. Also a ball of yarn (any color or material)  I decided to go with blue, pink, for boy and girl; and Green because it is neutral. I used YouTube to find a video tutorial that I liked.  I went ahead and typed out the directions with a simpler explanation. Just a side note I made them for babies, but this same pattern can be used for kids and adults too.

Step 1 getting started The first thing to do is loop the yarn in a slip knot around the hook. Thus creating the beginning of the first stitch. Now chain 5 stitches. Then slip stitch into the first stitch. Making it look like a circle as shown. Note to remember: It is ok if the stitches don’t look perfect, in the end it will even out.

Step 2- Round 1 12 stitches Work 12 double crochets into the center hole. Then slip stitch into the first stitch to connect the circle.

Step 3- Round 2 24 stitches Chain 2 stitches Then work 1 double crochet into the same stitch Now continue to work 2 double crochets into each stitch Once the circle has been completed slip stitch into the first stitch to connect the circle

Step 4- Round 3 36 stitches Chain 2 stitches Work one double crochet into the next stitch Then in the next stitch work in 2 double crochets Repeat the pattern 1 double crochet, 2 double crochet all the way around Then slip stitch into the first stitch to connect the circle.

Step 5- Round 4 48 stitches Chain 2 stitches Then work 1 double crochet into the next stitch Then work 2 double crochets into the next stitch Repeat the pattern 1 double crochet in 2 stitches, 2 double crochet in 1 stitch all around. Then slip stitch into the first stitch to connect the circle.

Step 6- Round 5 60 stitches Chain 2 stitches Work 1 double crochet into the next 2 stitches Then work 2 double crochet into the next stitch Repeat the pattern 1 double crochet in 3 stitches, 2 double crochet in 1 stitch all the way around Then slip stitch into the first stitch to connect the circle.

Step 7- Round 6 66 stitches Chain 2 stitches Work 1 double crochet into the next 8 stitches Then work 2 double crochets into the next stitch Repeat the pattern 1 double crochet in 9 stitches, 2 double crochet in 1 stitch all the way around Then slip stitch into the first stitch to connect the circle.

Step 8- Creating length Chain 2 stitches Work 1 double crochet into each stitch all the way around Then slip stitch into the first stitch to connect the circle. Continue until the desired length The rounds start to curl up Side view Sitting up view
