2 Driver Responsibility When Involved In An Accident  Stop Immediately (failure to do so is breaking the law)  Render aid to injured persons. Do not move injured unless they are in a life-threatening situation.  Warn other traffic (flashers, cones, flares).  Obtain medical help if needed.  Call the police and request ambulance if necessary.

3 Driver Responsibility When Involved In An Accident  Give ones name, address, and your license number.  Ask other driver for same information.  Make an accident report.  If damages are more than $250 or there is a fatality a written report (SR-13) must be sent to the Department of Public Safety within 30 days of the accident.

4 Driver Responsibility When Involved In An Accident  If your vehicle is involved with an unattended vehicle, make an attempt to locate the owner.  If you cannot locate the owner notify the police.  See a doctor. It could be several days before injuries become known following an accident.

5 What To Do If You See An Accident  Park your car well off the roadway.  Turn off the ignition of the wrecked car(s).  Recruit help from passing motorists or bystanders.  Call police and if necessary call the paramedics and/or ambulance.  Have someone direct traffic until police arrive on the scene.

6 What To Do If You See An Accident  Turn on the headlights of the wrecked car(s) if they are blocking traffic.  If explosives are involved, warn everyone to stay 600 ft. away from the crash.  Write complete notes about the crash in the event testimony in case it is needed later.  Leave your name and contact information with the drivers who may need a witness.

7 Financial Responsibility  Liability insurance should cover most expenses if you are involved in an accident.  Out of pocket expenses will depend on how much your liability insurance is.  If a collision is the result of you having broken the law, you may, depending on the severity of the crash, be: Fined and have to pay court costs. Have you license suspended or revoked. Sent to jail.
