1 ACT IV and V Vocabulary Romeo and Juliet Your vocabulary chart is due Friday.

2 Aaron went to class without his book. “Duh, you loggerhead!” his friends yelled at him. “Our teacher told us to bring our books to class!”

3 Loggerhead- (pun) a slang name for a stupid person

4 The family was lamentable, as they gathered around the casket of their loved one and cried.

5 Lamentable- filled with grief

6 The man went to the apothecary to ask what kinds of medicines could heal his sick wife.

7 Apothecary- pharmacist

8 The two old friends met at the pub to visit over food and cordials.

9 Cordial- a drink believed to be good for the heart/health (usually contains alcohol)

10 Romeo and Juliet’s love was so inexorable that even his banishment wouldn’t keep them from loving each other.

11 Inexorable- unstoppable

12 Romeo left an amorous letter describing his devotion to Juliet.

13 Amorous- loving

14 The two paramours could be seen holding hands and kissing in the courtyard.

15 Paramour- lover

16 Because she had sinned, Juliet planned to spend most of her night kneeling at the foot of her bed with her hands folded, as she said orisons.

17 Orisons- prayers
