3 Description of Core ED3: PICU Surge Planning Intensive Care Exercise 1.Available to 15 hospitals that have intensive care surge plan 2.Participating hospitals will participate in Multi-Hospital Exercise using the Situational Awareness Tool (SAT)

4 How ED3 PICU Surge Planning Intensive Care Exercise Ties to Pediatric Preparedness 1.Up to 15 hospitals will increase awareness of their pediatric preparedness 2.Hospitals will practice their internal and external communication system through the SAT 3.Coordinate activities during a pediatric mass casualty response 4.Identify response gaps

6 Goals of the Project The goal of this exercise is to test and improve multiple NYC hospitals’ response and ability to surge in response to a large pediatric disaster 1.Test and improve communications with staff 2.Test and improve communications with city agencies 3.Test and improve hospitals’ Pediatric Surge Capacity activities and plans 4.Identify staffing needs for pediatric disaster 5.Hospital identify and triage patients who require secondary transfer to another facility

7 Roles and Expectations Convene a hospital planning team Attend at least 3 planning meetings plus controller/evaluator training session(s) Identify two representatives from your hospital to attend the controller/evaluators training. These controllers and evaluators should be individuals who will not be actors in the exercise. Participate in the SAT Handshake (survey) Participate in the exercise at your facility Invite DOHMH (or other agency) to participate in drill Attend hotwash Attend After Action Meeting Complete After Action Report and Improvement Plan Matrix

8 Upcoming Events 1.The PDC will be reaching out with potential planning meeting dates for the exercise 2.A “handshake” with the SAT will be conducted in January 2016 3.The exercise will be conducted on March 10 th from 10:00am - 4pm. a.Exercise from 10am-2pm b.Hospital Hotwash 2-3pm c.Global Hotwash 3-4pm
