2. A Brief History of the Game of Check ers The game of checkers, as we know it, is believed to have come from a game called Alquerque as far back as 1400BC. Historians found that the Invention of the modern Checkers was in the 12 th century at the time it was called Fiegers and then changed to dames in the 15 th century

3. Formalized rules began to appear as it gained popularity in France. And as the game made its way to England it was renamed Draughts, and eventually renamed Checkers when it came to North America. There are many variations of checkers around the world. Many countries have their own localized names, rules, boards and pieces. Regardless of its name checkers is the most popular game in the world

4. Before you begin To play you need 2 people checkerboard and game pieces. The board is 8x8 squares And they alternate from light to dark. You and your opponents sit on opposite sides of the board. You must arrange the board so the light corner is to the players right. Place 12 pieces on the dark color squares in the first three rows Click here for illustration

5. Rules of the game Black always begins play and the two people then alternate. Checkers always move one diagonal space per turn in a forward direction. If all dark squares diagonal to the piece are occupied then that piece is blocked and another peace must be moved. A piece can only move to dark spaces and can only move forward. Also it cannot move off the board.

6. Rules of the Game A piece cannot move backward unless it has been “crowned”. The opponents piece is “captured” by jumping diagonally over it to an empty square just behind it. Take the captured piece of the board. A player can “Double jump” or triple jump over and capture as many pieces in one move as long as each jump follows the rules. 8. Crown Me Pieces that reach the far end of the board (called kings row) become kings by stacking a second captured piece on top of it. Then the piece is removed.

11. You Win You win the game if you capture all twelve of the opposes pieces and your opponent wins if they capture all of your pieces. A player may lose if there are no moves available on the board. 12. Strategies and Tips Protect your Kings Row. Since kings can move freely around the board, you want to prevent the opposing player from being crowned. Keep kings row occupied as long as possible to prevent the opposing player from being crowned. To set up a double jump plan to sacrifice one of your own players.
