John 16:5-6 Emotional Revolt of the Soul

John 16:5, “But now I (Jesus) am going to Him (God the Father) who sent Me, and yet not one of you (the disciples) asks Me, ‘Where are you going?’”

John 16:6, “But because I have said (taught) to you all these things, sorrow (inward stress) has completely filled your heart (right lobe of the soul).”

The Doctrine of Emotional Revolt of the Soul

Asceticism (Legalistic) Lasciviousness (Ultra loose living) OldSinNature Strength (Human Good) Weakness (Personal sins) Immoral Human Good “ends justify the means” Moral Human Good “means justify the ends” Immoral Sin and Evil Approbation Sin and Evil “going along with the crowd”

D. Emotional Revolt of the Soul is characterized by various Personality Disorders.

a. Antisocial Personality Disorder, (APD), is a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation, manipulation, or exploitation of the rights of others.

b. Histrionic Personality Disorder. (HPD), acting in a very emotional and dramatic way that draws attention to self. Constantly seeking reassurance, approval, or praise.

c. Narcissistic Personality Disorder, (NPD), being excessively preoccupied with issues of personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity, linked to self- centeredness.

d. Dependent Personality Disorder, (DPD), they depend too much on others to meet their emotional and physical needs, and do not trust their own ability to make decisions.

e. Passive-Aggressive P.D., (PAPD), covert obstruction- ism, procrastination, stub- bornness, and inefficiency passively expressed with underlying aggression.

E. Results of Emotional revolt of the soul.

1. E.R.S. converts the outside pressure of adversity into the inside pressure of stress in the soul, Job 30:27.

Job 30:27, “I am seething within and cannot relax; Days of affliction confront me.”

“Within” = MEEH, “internal organs, inward parts, belly,” just as KOILIA in the Greek. Therefore it stands for “emotions.”

We could translate it as, “My emotions are boiling (E.R.S.), and I cannot relax; days of stress confront me.”

2. Emotional revolt of the soul contradicts Bible doctrine and causes dissension, Rom 16:17-18.

You should avoid those with E.R.S. because this is where the psychotic and neurotic tendencies among believers begin.

They will influence you; you will rarely influence them. Only the Word of God can ever bring them back.

3. E.R.S. makes the believer the enemy of the Cross because his god is his emotions. Phil 3:18b-19a

Phil 3:18-19a, “...they are the enemies of the Cross of Christ, whose destiny is destruction, whose god is their emotion.”

4. E.R.S. means the believer is controlled by the Emotional Complex of Sins: fear, worry, anxiety, panic, cowardice, traumatic reactions caused by stress in the soul and Sin Nature control of the soul.

This is contrary to God’s Plan. 2 Tim 1:7, “For God has not given us a lifestyle of fear (E.R.S.), but of power and virtue-love and of sound judgment, (common sense).”
