3 SS Disciplines History (ian)- refers to the study and interpretation of past humans, families and societies as preserved primarily through written sources. Anthropology (ist)- consists of the study of humanity and culture. Anthropologists have tended to concentrate on the seemingly more "traditional" institutions and customs of non-Western, often tribal, societies. Geography (er)- is the study of the Earth's features and of the distribution of life on the earth, including human life and the effects of human activity.

4 SS Disciplines Psychology (ist)- involves the study of the human mind, brain, and behavior. Sociology (ist)- studies the social rules and processes that organize people in society as individuals and as members of groups. Political Science (ist)- concerning the theory and practice of politics and the description and analysis of political systems and political behaviour. Economics (ist)- the study of human choice behavior and how it effects the production, distribution, and consumption of scarce resources. Economics studies how people seek to satisfy needs and wants through incentives, choices, and allocation of scarce resources.

5 SS Disciplines Archaeology (ist) – is the study of past human societies, primarily through the recovery and analysis of the material culture and environmental data which they have left behind, which includes artifacts, architecture, biofacts and cultural landscapes. Ethnography(er) gathers and records data about human culture and societies. There are various research methods that can be applied to the different sub-categories of this social study, such as field, design or visual ethnography. An ethnographer often needs to be able to find patterns in and understand issues faced by a wide sample of people with diverse backgrounds.
