Aqeedah/Belief Basics

What is Aqee’dah? Al-Aqeedah linguistically is derived from the term aqada. In Arabic, one states,"Aqada the rope" when the rope is tied firmly. And, "Aqada the sale" or "He settled the sale" when the person ratifies and contracts a sale or agreement.

Allah SWT says in the Quran, "And as for those whom your right hands have made a covenant (Ar., aqadat)" [Al-Nisa 33]. And Allah SWT also says, "But He will take you to task for the oaths which you swear in earnest (Ar., aqadtum) [Al- Maida, 89] which means asserted and adhered to, as proven in the verse, "And break not oaths after the assertion of them" [An-Nahl, 91]. If one says, "Aqadtu such and such," it means his heart is firm upon such and such. Imam Abu Hanifa called this great subject al-Fiqh al-Akbar ("The Greater Understanding") and the understanding of the religion

See you not how Allah sets forth a parable? – A goodly word as a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the sky (i.e. very high). Giving its fruit at all times, by the Leave of its Lord and Allah sets forth parables for mankind in order that they may remember. [14:24-25]

The tree as mentioned in Qur’an is a parable of Muslim Tree=Eeman of a Muslim Strong roots, tree cannot be shaken Strong eeman, Muslim cannot be shaken Branches reach upto Allah. Eeman connects to Allah. Tree gives you shade and comfort. Eeman keeps you safe and happy. Strong tree gives fruit. Good Deeds

Draw and explain the parable between a tree and Eeman of a Muslim. Activity 1

Eeman is la illaha illulah “There is only one God.”

1.When we establish that firm root, we bear the fruit. 2.It is the parable of La Ilaha illallah: the Goodly Word. Whoever plants la ilaha illallah in his heart and nurtures it, the fruits (good deeds) it will bear will enter him in Jannah. 3.The roots of Eemaan are so deep, that once true faith enters one’s heart it will remain there forever.

Heraclius said to Abu Sufyan in the famous hadith from Sahih al-Bukhari, “I asked you whether his followers were increasing or decreasing. You replied that they were increasing, and in fact this is the way of true faith, till it is complete in all respects. I further asked you whether there was anybody, who, after embracing his religion, became displeased and discarded his religion. Your reply was in the negative, and in fact this is (the sign of) true faith, when its delight enters the hearts and mixes with them completely.”
