Lab 1 C Objectives 1.Calibrate a Pipet 2.Density 3.Statistical analysis 4.Graphing linear regression

A typical pipet is a calibrated, or numbered, glass tube.

Density Density is the amount of mass per given volume: It is specific to every substance It is often referred to as specific gravity m is expressed in grams and v in milliliters ex: Water is 1g/mL

Part D Using a balance to calibrate a 10 ml pipet Obtain aproximately 40 ml of water Find the temperature of the water and record Find the mass of a 50ml Erlenmeyer flask Find the mass of the Erlenmeyer flask and 10 ml of water delivered by a pipet Subtract the two to find the mass of 10 ml of water Do this three times

Part D Using a balance to calibrate a 10 ml pipet Using table 1.6 on page 8, determine the theoretical density of the water based on the actual temperature With this density, determine the actual volume of water the pipet delivered…be sure to show all work with correct sig figs

Part D Using a balance to calibrate a 10 ml pipet Determine the mean volume of water based on the formula given in example 1.4 on page 9 Determine the individual deviations based on the formula given in example 1.4 on page 9

Part D Using a balance to calibrate a 10 ml pipet Determine the average deviation from the mean based on the formula given in example 1.4 on page 9 Determine the volume delivered by your pipet using the mean volume delivered =- your average deviation

Part E Measuring Density of antifreeze Find the mass of a 50ml Erlenmeyer flask Find the mass of the Erlenmeyer flask and 10 ml of antifreeze delivered by a pipet Subtract the two to find the mass of 10 ml of antifreeze Do this three times Using the volume of 10ml and the mass… determine the density

Part E Measuring Density of antifreeze Determine the mean density of antifreeze based on the formula given in example 1.4 on page 9 Determine the individual deviations based on the formula given in example 1.4 on page 9

Part E Measuring Density of antifreeze Determine the average deviation from the mean based on the formula given in example 1.4 on page 9

Lab Part D and E Procedures on page 7 -9 Pg 11 and 12 and 13 Generate a excel computer graph for question number 9 using a linear regression model (y=mx+b) Instructions numbers 22-31 on page A32) next week lab 2 pre quiz
