3 QUALIFICATIONS TO HAVE A WORK COPYRIGHTED Must be of sufficient length and fixed in a medium observable by human eye, machine or device

4 HOW LONG DOES COPYRIGHT LAST Automatically protected from the moment of its creation and normally lasts for a term of the author’s life and 70 years after the author’s death

5 WHY REGISTER? It shows ownership Other people can’t use your work without your permission

6 HOW DO YOU REGISTER? Submit a completed application form online with a $35 filing fee

7 WHAT CAN YOU DO IF SOMEONE BREAKS YOUR COPYRIGHT? First, you should notify them and ask them to stop. Second, you could offer to sell them a license, so they could pay you to use your work. Finally, you could take them to court.

8 WHAT IS A TRADEMARK? A symbol, word, or words legally registered or established by use as representing a company or product. A copyright protects an original or artistic literary work.
