1 Welcome to 6th Grade Math/Science Mr. Calderon Room P9

2 6 th Grade Big change for the students coming to middle school! Encourage responsibility, independence, and self-esteem

3 Curriculum: Math 6 – Topics include fractions, decimals, percent, geometry, probability, and algebra. Students will be responsible for keeping a math notebook. Each day the students will complete class work, class notes, and homework. Power Teaching Math Science 6 – Sixth grade science focuses on earth science. We will be studying the topics of geology, meteorology, oceanography, and ecology. Students will be responsible for keeping a science notebook. The students must keep all class work and homework assignments in their science notebook. Text: Prentice Hall Science, Focus on Earth Science

4 Materials Needed Two single subject spiral notebooks, 11 inches by 8.5 inches ( one for math and one for science). Make sure it is this size!! Pencils (Always have several) Highlighter pens (blue or black) Colored pencils Markers Suggested items: White board, marker and eraser (old sock or piece of cloth will do)

5 Grading Policies Grades will be calculated using a weighted average. MathScience Unit check40%Tests40% Cycle check30%PQRST 30% Participation/Classwork 20%Quizzes/Projects20% Homework10%Homework10% **Extra Credit is not given.

6 Notebooks Notebooks need to be at school every day. Notebooks must be 11 x 8 ½ (or larger) Notebooks must be complete. When a student is absent, it is important that the student make-up the notes/work missed

7 Homework Students will be assigned math homework Monday thru Thursday. Students must write the problem and show all their work. It is not acceptable to write the answers only. Homework is due at the beginning of class.

8 Donations Needed!! None for Mr. Calderon Personal items your student will need: Tissue paper Hand sanitizer

9 Communication It is very important that home/school communication be maintained! One of the best ways to communicate with me is by email: pcalderon@mvusd.net. I will get back to you within 24 hours regarding your questions or concerns. Together we will make 6th grade a successful year for your child. Available before/after school for conferences. 10 Dates to remember… September 17 – Math Parent Night, 6-7 pm in the MPR Math tutoring – begins September 30 th from 3:30pm – 4:40pm every Tuesday and Thursday
