NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 2 Summary The new fast IR camera is working reliably to measure divertor heat flux with temporal resolution of 1.6 - 6.3kHz and spatial resolution of 6.4mm Temporal resolution is fast enough to resolve transient events Time averaged temperature and heat flux profiles agree well with slow IR data Data analysis for various plasma conditions in progress

NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 3 IR images of lower divertor for an ELMy H-mode View from the top, 128x128 pixels, 1.6kHz Radial cut for data analysis

NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 4 Measured surface temperature Temperature profiles from measured surface emissivity 1.6kHz

NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 5 Calculated heat flux Heat flux profiles from surface temperature by solving heat conduction equation 1.6kHz

NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 6 ELM resolved surface temperature 1.6kHz Short ELM rise time gives only one frame for a rising ELM even at 1.6kHz

NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 7 ELM resolved heat flux 1.6kHz ELMs push strike point out by 2-3cm

NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 8 Comparison with slow IR measurement 30Hz1.6kHz Temp. profiles from slow IRTime averaged temperature profiles from fast IR

NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 9 Comparison with slow IR measurement 30Hz1.6kHz Heat flux profiles from slow IRTime averaged heat flux profiles from fast IR

NSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – First results of fast IR camera (Ahn)June 22, 2009 10 We appreciate excellent technical supports from PPPL staff members!!!
