MAGNETOMETERS IN HYPACK® Data Collection & Data Processing

Data Collection  DF 1000 (Serial)  Geometrics 881/882/G-858 Map Mapper/G-882TVG  Insight Marine (881 Dual)  IXSEA Magis  J W Fisher Proton 4  Marine Magnetics Seaspy and Seaquest  Scintrex Envigrad  Seaquest  UC Mag  GEM Systems GSM-19  Quantro Sensing Magnetometer The MAGNET.DLL is a standard device driver that supports the above magnetometers. All 10,000 HYPACK users have access to this driver as a standard feature of HYPACK.

MAGNETOMETER EDITING MAG EDIT Supports: Stand-alone magnetometers. Stand-alone magnetometers with IGRF corrections. Sea magnetometer with Shore Based magnetometer, both with IGRF corrections.

Stand-alone magnetometers with IGRF corrections The International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) is a standard mathematical description of the earth's main magnetic field and its secular variation. It is the magnetic field generated by the earth’ inner core. MAG EDIT

Stand-alone magnetometers with IGRF corrections If there is no Shore Base data: RAW Anomaly= Raw Gamma – IGRF Boat MAG EDIT RAW DATAIGRF ModelIGRF BoatRAW DATAIGRF ModelIGRF BoatRAW DATAIGRF ModelIGRF BoatRAW DATAIGRF Model IGRF BoatRAW DATAIGRF Model

Shore Based magnetometer and IGRF corrections If data from a Shore Base are available, Mag Edit will calculate: - Station Magnetic constant. - Magnetic Diurnal Variation ie Diurnal Component. - Agitation Component. MAG EDIT

Shore Based magnetometer and IGRF corrections * Shore based data could be input in SHOM and IAGA Formats Station Magnetic constant: magnetic field average at the position of the station. Station Constant= Average Shored Based Data – Average IGRF (Shore Based Data) MAG EDIT IGRF Shore Shore Based DATA* IGRF Model

Shore Based magnetometer and IGRF corrections Diurnal Component: Oscillations of the earth's magnetic field which have a periodicity of about a day and which depend to a close approximation only on local time and geographic latitude. Diurnal Anomaly= Shore Filter*- (IGRF (Shore)+Station Constant) * 5 hours Filter The variation is calculated with a time shift as this variation is not simultaneous, it depends of the latitude difference between the ship and the shore based. Delta t = 240* |longitude (ship) – longitude (shore-based) | MAG EDIT

A Shore Based magnetometer and IGRF corrections Agitation component: Variation of magnetic fields caused by solar eruptions. This component is considered simultaneous for the ship and the Shore based magnetometers. Agitation Component= Unshifted Shore based Data- Unshifted Filter* Shored Base Data * 5 hours Filter MAG EDIT

Shore Based magnetometer and IGRF corrections final results Diurnal Anomaly Diurnal Anomaly= Gamma 1- IGRF (Boat) – Diurnal Component Total Anomaly Total Anomaly = Gamma 1- IGRF (Boat)- (Diurnal Component + Agitation Component) MAG EDIT

MAG EDIT Supports: Stand-alone magnetometers. Stand-alone magnetometers with IGRF corrections. Sea magnetometer with Shore Based magnetometer, both with IGRF corrections. MAGNETOMETER EDITING

MAG EDIT Spreadsheet Stand Alone Mode: No IGRF corrections and NO shore-based magnetometer Stand Alone Mode with IGRF Corrections: IGRF corrections and NO shore-based magnetometer

Reference stations can be user-supplied or IAGA station data. Shore-Based References Input : Shore-base file and format Shore base position Altitude Shore Time Zone Correction Settings for 5 hours Filter

Shore-Based References The shore-based data can be displayed with basic zoom tools. The graph displays raw data and filtered values. The values can be exported.

MAG EDIT Spreadsheet With a Shore-Based Reference Station…:  Reference station can be user supplied or an IAGA station.  Separate IGRF values are computed for both the vessel and shore-based measurements.  A 5 hours Filter is applied to the Shore Based Data.  A Time Shift is computed and applied Diurnal Component.  Unshifted Values are applied to the computed Agitation Component. Shore Based data and results can be display in color.

MAG EDIT Spreadsheet Display recommended information.

Spreadsheet Vessel with Shore-Based Adjustments Gamma 1:Measurement on vessel. IGRF(Boat):IGRF Adjustment for vessel. Raw Anomaly: Gamma1 – IGRF(Boat). Time Shit: latency correction between the ship and the shore-based station. Shore Value: Gamma value of the shore- based reference station or IAGA at shifted time. Shore Filter: 5-hour filtered shore-based values. IGRF (Shore):IGRF Adjustment for shore- based reference station at shifted time. Station Constant: Station magnetic field average. Diurnal Component: Diurnal Variation at the calculated shifted time. Unshifted Shore:IGRF Adjustment for the shore-based reference station with the unshifted time. Unshifted Filter: Gaussian filter on the unshifted time. Agitation Component: The high frequency component. Diurnal Anomaly. Total anomaly.

SURVEY Window Magnetometer tracklines are displayed against the users background charts. The current location of the selected record is shown with the marker. This allows clients to examine the location of anomalies to see if there is corresponding features on the charts. S-57, S-63, UKHO ARCS, BSB, DXF, DGN, GeoTIF, JPG2000 and other background formats are supported.
