6 Authors Purpose The authors purpose of writing this book was to entertain the reader with a good story about a big yeller dog.

7 What happened in ’’Old Yeller’’ In the first part of the book - Travis went back home and found Old Yeller after he had just finished eating all their meat for the winter. Then Travis had to go hunting and he killed a doe. Then he hung the deer up that he killed when he went in the dog run and he said that would be a good excuse to get rid of Old Yeller.
